Evaluator: Jason Handler: Jeremy Helper Dog: A916635 Baby walks calmly on leash and was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm and relaxed during handling and had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl, but was not interested in toys or rawhide. Baby was relaxed when approaching the helper dog, but was not playful. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog stands with his tail low and wagging, and comes toward the Assessor in a friendly manner when the Assessor ceases moving. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy 1: No interest. Reassess at future date. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Reassess at future date. Dog-dog: 1. Francesca Lofaro

We walked in the rain last night. When we walked back I dried her off, I took her face in my hands and kissed her and hugged her. I took a blanket and put it in the dryer for 10 minutes so she would have a toasty blanket to lay down on. She finished all her food. Tomorrow I will give thanks for being able to show Baby some love in her final hours. I share this through tears with all of you so you know she had some loving on her last night on earth. To all the people, who adopted and fostered dogs like Baby in the past… Thankyou, Baby a perfect temperament, loveable old friend that more than anything else appeared on the wrong day of the calendar. While Baby is gone and I am sad, I remember those that have and will go the extra yard for the senior pro friends, Thankyou for all the other days when I feel such joy and relief from that incredible word safe. Baby I am so sorry… You were a great dog, who even under such stress continued to shine.
Jackie Ostrander francesca thank you for showing her love in her final hours at least she knew she wasnt alone and unloved..
Anna Perrone Lodi Beautiful Baby :”(( Thank you Francesca, so much for loving her on her last night. It makes a difference. RIP Baby ♥

A case for spay and neutering

With millions of animals killed in US shelter every year, with millions of dogs and cats brutally poisoned and clubbed to death all over the world, here is a case for managing the natural procreative drive of animals. Rip sweet ones & mommies with puppies – you are not forgotten play free at the bridge.

Invisible Dogs to point to -> Invisible dogs

There are many ways to help – invisible dogs is one way. They did a very nice campaign October 8. You got any ideas of how to help?
Invisible dogs – supercute video

Did you see me today?

As you rushed past to the kennel with the five darling little pups –

seven people already there, rescues lined up to save –
Did you see me today?

Did you see my eyes filled with hurt and torture –
ten years of neglect and pain

from my life in the back yard, on a chain…
Did you see me today?

Did you hear the cries my heart made?

Three days ago was my tenth birthday and almost ten years ago

I was in that same kennel you rushed to today.

I was a darling little puppy that everyone wanted…

that got too big, too fast…and was sent to live on a chain in the backyard –

too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer,
barely a kind word spoken…

I begged for attention that never came, got tossed food most days,

begged for just a drink of water on too hot days,
my throat parched and hurting.

My dirty matted coat my only protection from the heat and cold, rain and snow
No one saw me then either.

Then I got too messy, my cries for attention too loud …

I just got too damn old.
No one saw me, and they brought me here to die.

That kennel you rushed to had six puppies then…

They dropped me off and took one from there

to fill my spot on that rusty chain in the backyard,

And I wonder… who is worse off – me or him?

I still have so much love in my heart, so much to share…
Did you see me today?

For a brief moment you stopped, and I thought our eyes met.

Was the smell of helpless death too strong for you,
my pleas for help too loud?

Did you see me today?
Will you go home, close your eyes in slumber

and recall the haunting look I gave…
Will you recall what was not seen today?

With the sunrise will you rush back to see?
I will not be here then.

Today, when the doors are locked
I will never be seen again…

Did you see me today?

Loyalty – Dogs and Humans do share a special bond

Hawkeye at his master's funeral

Lisa Pembleton, Navy Seal Tumilson’s cousin: Hawkeye is/was his loyal “son”. To say that he was an amazing man doesn’t do him justice. The loss of Jon to his family, military family and friends is immeasurable. I hadn’t planned on taking any pictures other than with family. However, from my seat
at the funeral, I felt compelled to take one photo to share with
family members that couldn’t make it or couldn’t see what I could from the aisle. This is that photo…

While the particular circumstances of this photo leaves some doubt (more here) about the accuracy of all the interpretation about this on the internet, this image does touch something on a very deep level.

Beautiful photo report on war dogs

It can help significantly for the dog(s) to see the dead body. This is also true for many cats. Allowing them this opportunity to “view the body” helps them come to terms with the reality of another’s demise. How and what they process cognitively in terms of death we can only guess. But we do know that many animals showing distress before they view the body become more settled afterwards. – Dr. Fox,

Rainbow Bridge — A Story

When you get into the field of life with dogs, dog rescue and dog lovers, you will inevitably encounter the Rainbow-Bridge. Below one of my favorite Rainbow-Bridge story.

Unlike most days at RainBow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray, damp as a swamp and as dismal as could be imagined. All the recent arrivals were confused and concerned. They had no idea what to think for they had never experienced a day like this before. But the animals who had spent some time waiting for their beloved people knew exactly what was happening and began to gather at the pathway leading to the Bridge to watch. They knew this was something special.
