Self interest, truth and working for animals

What are you doing to your child….

A couple of days before this year’s WEEAC, World Event to End Animal Cruelty, October 8, 2011, I became aware that it even existed. I visited their site, networked all over facebook and thought it was a really good thing happening. Of course, I kept an eye out for postings and youtubes from all over the world .. and there they were. I want to tell you about one of them, a youtube video of an event …and a comment that appeared the same day …and the entire thing got taken down – in any case it had been taken down. I have been wanting to write about this since I read the comment.

And before anyone gets all upset about anything, please read to the end of the post. I do not want to offend anyone. Thanks.

The video, to the best of my memory, showed some of the events that happened in ..Switzerland, Zurich, or so my memory goes. It was a rainy day….but people had gathered to inform, draw attention and march on behalf of the animals of the world and I remember thinking: wow, what dedication to show up on a day like that to work for, walk/stand up for this cause …..

Though the video had only been up a very short time, there was already 1 comment on that video. At first I thought …cool – then I read it and it went something like this (in German): A parent, (presumably mother, by the account name) was saying: we watched this video at home and my 8 year old daughter said: why didn’t we go there and I told her, because the organizers (die Veranstalter) still eat meat …and her eyes got big….and a couple more words I don’t recall.

And here is my reaction: gut tight, feeling bad…. this felt anything but well intentioned and then outrage at this woman poisoning the mind of her beautiful daughter — YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO BURDEN YOUR CHILD WITH YOUR STUFF, your narrow-minded consciousness, your limitations. How cruel …you don’t really care for animals, you have some sort of personal agenda that is more important…and you just poisoned your daughter…..and more. And this is without even knowing if she just lied to begin with.

That was my emotional response to this destructive feeling comment …and I did wait a couple of days before leaving a reply, but as I said, the video had been taken down by then.

Here are just some more thoughts and considerations on the subject:

I honor and deeply respect people walking on a rainy day for the sake of raising awareness to all cruelty and crimes committed by humans against animals, to support this worldwide effort in any way they can, to be out there talking to what appears to me an often apathic public where most people just don’t even want to know more or see pictures because it might rock their comfortable world a little too much.
This was and is a worthwhile worldwide event. It seems impossible to really take hold and spread, but please don’t listen to anyone telling you it can’t be done. If love and care and any kind of evolved consciousness and empathy is driving this – it can’t but succeed if humanity is meant to evolve.

So then, in this comment – this woman  talking to their 8 year old daughter obviously thinks the animals of this world are helped more by boycotting this event and by instilling into her daughter a sense of self-righteousness and justification of non contribution because of some shitty argument about some personal lifestyle of one (or more) of the organizers – teaching her blame as an excuse for not supporting this worthy cause.
I am quite familiar with the limitations and issues of even “normal” well intentioned humans. It is painful to have to live with the consequences of their actions. But when it comes to poisoning your child – I can’t help but to think: shame on that mother – because she knows better.  Does she not think this event is helpful for the animals? NO, obviously not, because she wouldda been there …but the crime against her daughter is something I  feel with even greater pain. It could have been handled so much better….

So then, what about being an organizer for WEEAC and still eating meat = animals? Hm, well, there is something about that that makes you wonder. At the same time you really need to know more before drawing any conclusions. And I tell you why:

An older friend of mine several years ago really needed to do something about his health if he was gonna live and he went to see a doctor who works a lot with the right diet for you. It turns out that for him it was very important to eat meat. Humans are omnivores, and I suppose depending on your origins and genetic make-up, some really do better with meat. So he found a local farmer who raises cows and beef in very limited numbers, all pasture, and he found someone who actually does humane slaughter, not like the so called kosher you see in videos. And that is the meat he eats. He also raises and kills his own organic chicken, ducks and other fowl. He also, where he does garden work, tells you to talk to the spirits of the plants to be weeded the day before so they can accept they will have to die.

I am telling this to make a point to know more about someone’s life and motivations before you feel so justified to make any kind of judgement. But to poison your child,  there really is NO excuse no matter what. Not sure want to speculate on what she thought she was standing up for – but it was not for the animals or this cause.

I also recall a story Tom Brown Jr told us in one of the wilderness survival classes I attended 20 years ago about how “grandfather” told him, as a child, to follow this young deer …which he got to know intimately, and then he was told to kill it and use it (meat and hide etc). This deer had something wrong with it, I don’t remember what it was. Tom eventually did kill him, the eyes of the deer looking at him, but it was so hard that he wanted to give this whole training up…….and the lesson is: you are taking a precious life, sacred life and you develop an attitude of respect, gratitude and you kill in ways that are quick and non cruel. In that class each group had to kill a while rabbit.

Have you ever read of stories of dogs giving their life, without thinking and hesitation …  trying to help, to save their owners? Whatever the real reason is that they do this …are you telling me you don’t allow an animal the right to give their life for a human?

And now I am going to pretend to be unborn consciousness of a cow/cattle looking at some life choices: – be born into a commercial cattle farm as a male, have a wonderful couple of years at the range but then die a cruel terrifying death in the end, or – not be born at all, or – to be born into a organically managed farm, have a good life, see someone who is working to help animals of the world but still, for some reason, needs to eat meat, come and buy me ..and the year after, be led to slaughter with a prayer, and a sudden quick death….to feed this person who is working to make life for animals on earth a better one, or – to be born wild but get hunted by wolves and eaten alive….make up any kind of life here…. but the planet as is does no longer have all the potential scenarios available.

I – as the consciousness of the cow  – have the right to choose and it could very well be that I choose to feed this person who is working on behalf of animals.…and even some who are just wanting me to have a good life at least. …knowing I won’t remember once I am incarnate. How far are you gonna go for the rights of animals?

Animals and nature are working in sync, there is a balance and harmony of providing for each other and coexisting.

addendum added 11-11-11 .I just came across this and respect it a lot

And what do you really know about the consciousness of animals? Is your dog vegetarian – but eventually getting sick because not being allowed what he needs? I used to give the German shepherd husky commercial meaty bones (money issue) because she was young and so loved them, and – I thanked the spirit of cow….for this gift. What are you gonna feed your lions – broccoli? And for that matter, do you really know what the broccoli has to say about that? – Just saying.

It is not actually the fact that someone eats meat per se that is an issue for me, though with higher and higher evolution of consciousness, the less you will…especially once you are aware what torture the animals go through in commercial food establishment. How could you still.

But is being militant and judgmental really gonna help? Just asking, not saying I know the answer.

Myself, I am vegetarian – however, I eat organic cheese. So now it’s like: do I really want to face some militant vegans? No  I really don’t need that kind of violence — I would rather work for animals the best way I can not being assaulted for eating cheese. If I could raise my own milk cow, I would…and she’d be my friend, I would give her food and shelter and she’d not mind sharing her milk…and in the end – she would want me to use her meat and hide and put it to good use.

Now, if you are an organizer of a WEEAC event AND you eat commercially produced meat – would not anyone say there is something deeply wrong with that, it just does not fit? I would then question your motives for being in the organization…..and it is in fact something to look at. We are not talking about breaking some outdated societal conventions and rules …this is a respect and sanctity of all life issue and eating commercially produced meat is not congruent with organizing a WEEAC event …. but we don’t actually know, do we … and imo it needs to get addressed and handled/cleared.

In no case does it justify what this parent did to their child … the animals of the world needed her. This little girl has another lesson all of her own to face ….

Say to your child: “I am sorry we did not go to the World Event against Animal Cruelty that day. I allowed my anger and personal feelings get in the way of supporting a good cause – and helping the all animals”  That could be one of the most life changing important lessons you can give her.

I joined 2 WEEAC fb groups – San Francisco and Deutschland. Not sure how much good I can do since I can’t travel atm, but ya never know. Not saying I have to be, but if I HAVE to be vegan – you need to count me out. In general, if some vegans  chilled a bit on the issue, their cause would be served better.

And he is something else form a Tom Brown class: when you start working on a new level – or a level of spiritual visibility – the demons and monsters there will notice you and start trying to take you down. They will use whatever is available. So it is inevitable that stuff happens….that then needs to be dealt with. I am saying that because the organization actually has to change the way they can work online because of people who leave comments like that. I am all for scrutiny and transparency …. and  getting a hold of your negative emotions and attitudes which can be destructive – but then, maybe the changes caused by people like that will be for the better 🙂
