Can dogs feel sad?

Can dogs feel sad? How do we really know? Is it we are interpreting sad in human terms? Do dogs get depressed?

There are huge scientific debates going on on the subject of dog’s emotions. We tend to treat dogs like humans, yet they are animals. They are creatures with instincts and they are happy when their instincts get satisfied. They pick up on energy around them. Their emotions lack the quality of premeditation. They live for whatever is happening in the moment. They are some of the most social animals on the planet. Dogs have different temperaments and experiences. Some are innately more resilient and strong, some are more timid. One thing we know: a shelter is no place for a dog. One look then at these pictures will tell you, they are not happy. They look sad and depressed. They can get confused and  anxious when left alone.
No matter what anyone tells me – yes, dogs can feel sad too. Don’t abandon your companion …
